Nature of the Organization
Welfare Organization for People of Afghan Association (WOPAA) is a humanitarian, non-profitable, non-political, non-sectarian, and non-governmental organization. WOPA was founded in 2008 to participate in Afghan rehabilitation and community development activities. The main aim of the organization is to reduce the suffering of vulnerable people through the implementation of relief and development programs by providing them with every possible assistance and income-generation opportunity in the field of their choice of expertise through training and capacity building, as well as the provision of tools and incentives.
WOPAA has changed its name after the collapse of the Afghan government Some of the board members and core team left the country as per the requirements rules and regulations WOPA is coming with some minor changes to key staff and its name from WOPA to WOPAA.
WOPAA is providing assistance throughout the country with a special focus on southern of Afghanistan – an area that has suffered the most. WOPA’s head office is located in Kandahar City with sub-offices in Helmand, Uruzgan, Nimroz, Kabul and Zabul. WOPAA is a member of Economic Department in the southern region in Afghanistan. It is also an official NGO registered with the Ministry of Economy and Kandahar’s, Helmand, Economy and Donors Department.
WOPAA has demonstrated the ability and adequate capacity for executing operational, financial, management and implementation quality started its efforts for rehabilitation of Afghanistan since 2008 in the sectors of, Women Improvement Agriculture food processing methods for women, Irrigation, Survey, Agriculture, and Vocational Training for Income Generation. WOPAA is in regular coordination and consultation and meetings with the Kandahar Provincial Government departments of Planning, Women, Health, Education, and DAIL. WOPAA also has close engagement with the KPRT and US Embassy and UN Agencies and other international implementing partners from the region. WOPAA has completed projects in the sectors of Agriculture Vocational Training, women improvement, Health, Agriculture, Construction skills, Education, Veterinary, and Capacity Building. These projects were funded by USAID/DAI/LGCD, ASGP/US Embassy, CEMONICS-ASI-South and PRTs and USAID-IRD,USAID-Chemonics.
